IFRS 9: Hedges, the return of management control

Description

By giving pre-eminence to the management view, IFRS 9 will profoundly recompose the management of hedges that prevailed under IAS 39. It will offer new opportunities to companies, as long as they master its particularities.

The conference addressed the following issues, among others:

  • What new hedging strategies have been made possible or facilitated by IFRS 9? (Net hedges, optional hedges, commodities, etc.)
  • What reporting should be done? What happens to the effectiveness tests
  • How to document and formalize hedge management policies, in order to measure their adequacy to the management intent of the managers?

Speakers: Sébastien ROUZAIRE, director of Kerius Finance, is a specialist in the management of market risk hedges (foreign exchange, interest rates, commodities) and debt management. He presented the new opportunities offered by IFRS 9, the key points of a hedging policy, and the corresponding reporting requirements. The members of the IFRS unit of Saint-Honoré Partenaires, Anthony JEAN-RENE, senior manager and Frédéric BURBAND, partner and member of the Commission des études comptables of the CNCC, developed the technical aspects.
